Puri’s famous Rath Yatra of Bhagwan Jagannath began today

Puri (Odisha) – Today, Puri’s famous Jagannath Rath Yatra has begun. 24 lakh devotees are expected to take part in the yatra. Hence a large contingent of Police are to be deployed for security purposes. The entire city is to be divided into 14 divisions and 29 areas.
The Yatra, which starts from the Puri temple, will conclude at Shree Gundicha temple, covering nearly a 3-kilometre distance. The famous festival, usually celebrated in June-July, begins when Shri Jagannath and His two siblings – elder brother Balabhadra and younger sister Devi Subhadra are ready to give Darshan to the public in Raths and visit Gundicha Temple. The Deities stay for nine days in Gundicha Temple.

Preparation of protecting the devotees in severe hot conditions
The administration has arranged 25 lakh water bottles considering the extreme heat. Volunteers will be given the charge of distributing them to the devotees. Water sprinklers will be used to reduce the temperature. 72 ambulances are stationed at different place on the path of the Rath Yatra. Special route for the ambulances have been fixed to take the patients to hospital.
