Berlin (Germany) – A Berlin Court has refused to hand over a toddler daughter of an Indian couple to her parents. The Court has assigned the responsibility of bringing up the girl to the ‘Germany Youth Welfare Office’. This girl has been under the control of the German Government since 2021.
The Government of India is helping the girl’s parents in this case. On 2nd June, Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said that keeping a girl child under Government’s control is a violation of social, cultural and linguistic rights.

India’s 19 political parties and 59 MPs have written a letter to Philipp Ackermann, German Ambassador to India, requesting to hand over the girl to her parents.
What is the case ?
The said girl’s father is a Software Engineer, who lives in Germany with his wife. When their daughter was 7 months old, she was injured while playing. When her parents took her to the hospital, doctors said she had been ‘sexually abused’. Therefore, the administrative authorities of Germany took the girl into custody.
