Science from the Vedas propagated as their own by the westerners
Serious accusation by ISRO Chief S Somanath
Ujjain (MP) – Algebra, square roots, concepts of time, architecture, the structure of the universe, metallurgy and aviation were first found in the Vedas. Vedas are the origin of science; but this knowledge travelled to Europe through Arab countries, and were subsequently posited as discoveries of scientists of the western world, said S Somanath, the chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He was speaking to the students of ‘Maharshi Panini Sanskrut and Vedic university’ at Ujjain. Panini has written Sanskrut grammar.
The ISRO Chief further said –
Significance of Sanskrut
Knowledge of various subjects was preserved in Sanskrut language which did not have a script earlier. It was listened to and learnt by heart. It was only later that people started using the Devanagari script for Sanskrut.
Engineers and scientists like Sanskrut a great deal. It suits the language of computers and those learning artificial intelligence learn it. Lot of research is being done on how Sanskrut can be used for computation.
Indian literature written in Sanskrut is extremely rich in its original and philosophical form. It is also important in the scientific form. There is no separation of cultural, spiritual and scientific study in Sanskrut.
Science and Astronomy
Findings in astronomy, medicine, sciences, physics, chemical sciences and aeronautical sciences were written in Sanskrut. But they were not fully exploited and researched; e.g. Surya Siddhanta, a book on astronomy that is believed to date back to the 8th century. Being a rocket scientist, I was fascinated by this book in Sanskrut that talks about the solar system, time- scale, and the size and circumference of Earth. Western world got its credit.
