Uncleanness and stray pigs at the Akkalkot bus stand

Akkalkot (Dist Solapur) – The condition of the bus stand at Akkalkot is extremely pitiable where devotees come not only from Maharashtra and Karnataka but from all over India, to visit Swami Samarth Devasthan. There is litter everywhere in the Akkalkot bus stand and premises, where even stray dogs and pigs move freely.

1. The condition of the washrooms at the bus stand is equally bad, so also, that of the ceiling of the bus stand.

2. People have spat everywhere on the walls of the staircase that leads to the office, with ‘paan/gutkha’ sprays. The condition of the letterbox is also pitiable.

3. The paint on the wall of the bus stand has flaked off.

4. The washrooms are dirty; passengers have no discipline, and they sit in the open for morning chores.

5. Tattered clothes are seen flung on the trees.

A few devotees expressed their displeasure over the condition of the bus stand and said, the State Road Transport Corporation and the local administration should pay attention to the problems.

Akkalkot bus stand to be totally transformed ! – Yogesh Kulkarni, Bus Depot-chief

Yogesh Kulkarni, the Chief of this bus depot said, “I have recently taken over as the chief of this bus depot. Presently, I am taking a review of the situation and will try to immediately take care of the shortcomings wherever possible. Rs 29 crores have been sanctioned for the renovation of Akkalkot bus stand, therefore, the bus stand will be totally transformed and that will solve most of the problems.”
