Barmer (Rajasthan) – Barmer District Collector Lok Bandhu issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 to maintain law and order on festivals. This order states that no one should celebrate the Holi festival in such a way that it hurts the sentiments of other religions. The order is being opposed by BJP and Hindu organisations. Last year too, the States Congress Government imposed Section 144 in numerous Districts including Ajmer.

1. The order states that no songs and slogans are to be raised that hurt the feelings of a person or other religious people. Similarly, no colour is to be thrown on the persons against their wishes, which could hurt their religious sentiments.
2. District Collector Lok Bandhu said, such orders are given during all the festivals. Under it, more than 5 individuals are banned from congregating. Drinking alcohol, carrying arms, and arguing, are banned. These orders are being given in the past as well.
3. The State Legislative Assembly’s deputy leader of the opposition Rajendra Rathod objected to the order. He alleged that this is a black mark against the ruling Congress Government. Rathod raised a point of order against this in the Assembly and demanded an answer from the Government.
