Most of the students committing suicide are Dalit and Adivasi : Chief Justice Chandrachud
Hyderabad (Telangana) – Lack of empathy for the underprivileged faction in society has led to a rise in discrimination. It has also increased the cases of suicides by students. Most of the students who committed suicide were Dalit and Adivasi as per Professor Sukhdev Thorat, mentioned the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Chandrachud during his convocational address in the 19th annual convocation ceremony of ‘The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University’.
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Saturday expressed concern over instances of alleged suicides by students and said his heart goes out to the bereaved kin of the victims.https://t.co/MbwkKJxyZn

CJI Chandrachud said further,
1. In the last 75 years, we focussed on creating prestigious institutions, but we need to set up institutions that will empathise with society. Lack of empathy is directly related to the attitude of discrimination.
2. Judges can never alienate themselves from social realities. Judicial interaction is the same throughout the world. After the murder of a black American, George Floyd, the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement started in the USA. All 9 judges of the Supreme Court in the USA had submitted a joint memorandum on how the lives of black people were deteriorating and devalued. Similarly, the judges in India should interact with society not only inside but even outside the Courts.
