MLA Abbas Ansari’s wife arrested after she was found illegally meeting him in the jail

Chitrakoot (UP) –  Abbas Ansari, a lawmaker from the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), is a prisoner in Chitrakoot jail since November 2022 in connection with a money laundering case. A team of the District Administration and Police conducted a surprise inspection at the jail on Friday and caught Nikhat Bano inside a room next to the jail superintendent’s office. Police said she had entered the jail without completing the formalities.

According to the Police, Nikhat visited the jail every day at around 11 a.m. and stayed for around 3-4 hours. They both met in the superintendent’s room. The two were found in the room when the raid was conducted.  The UP Police also recovered two mobile phones, Rs 21,000 in cash, some gold ornaments and Saudi Arabian currency from Nikhat during the inspection.

Anand Kumar, the Director-General of Department of Prisons Administration and Reform said, “The jail superintendent, jailor, deputy jailor and five jail warders have been suspended for laxity in discharging duties. Departmental action has also been initiated against them.”

MLA Ansari’s father, the notorious gangster Mukhtar Ansari, is also under arrest in Banda Jail.

Nikhat Bano and Abbas did not need any permission to meet. There are several serious cases against Abbas still pending in court. While in Chitrakoot Jail, Abbas was also said to be using his wife’s cellphone to threaten witnesses and prosecuting officers as well as to extort money from people. Prison officials and staff were given all kinds of gifts, money and inducements. Due to this, his wife was comfortably spending time with him in the jail.

The nation needs to know how the MLA’s wife could directly meet him in jail when there is a rule which prohibits anyone meeting the detainee even for a few minutes without formal permission. The public however, knows how deep this strain of corruption has gone !
