Hindus’ agitations against State’s Religious and Charitable Endowments Department at Chennai
Oppose to a case against Hindus’ temple land
Chennai – An organisation named Bharat Hindu Munnani (BHM) staged agitations against the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. This department has claimed that the land of Arulmigu Angalamman Temple is owned by the department, demanding additional rent from the residents of the Choolai-Thattankulam area. Even notices have been issued for a delay in payment of rent and the residents are warned that their stay would be treated as encroachment, and they would be evicted if they didn’t pay additional rent. BHM, therefore, staged agitations against the department with the participation of about 200 people, including women. Mr R Jaikumar and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) also joined the agitations.
BHM’s State-chief R D Prabhu and Choolai-Thattankulam House Owners’ Association’s secretary C Balaji expressed their views. Choolai Textile Employees’ Association’s founder Mathi explained the misuse of temple funds by the earlier and present Governments and how the Charitable Endowments Department was harassing ordinary residents.
