UP Madarasa Board refuses permission for non-Muslim students to study in schools other than madarasas
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – ‘Rashtriya Bal Adhikar Sanrakshan Aayog (The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights [NCPCR])’ has written to the Uttar Pradesh Government to conduct a survey of non-Muslim students studying in madarasas and send them to other schools.
This demand has, however, been rejected by the Uttar Pradesh State Madarasa Education Board (UPMEB). Later, the NCPCR issued notices to the State Minority Welfare Board and Waqf Board demanding action against madarasas.

Mr Priyank Kanungo (President of NCPCR) has said that the statement made by UPMEB about continuing education to non-Muslim students in madarasas is objectionable and weird. Imparting Islamic education to non-Muslim students is a violation of Article 28(3) of the Constitution. He added that no action has been taken by the Minority Welfare Board and Waqf Board on the letter sent to them on 8th December 2022.
