Power shortage in Pakistan – Pak Govt orders early closure of markets and marriage halls
Islamabad (Pakistan) – Pakistan orders all markets, wedding halls, and malls (major commercial complexes) in the country to be closed at night on 3rd January due to the economic crisis. The closure was imposed to save electricity as well. To save energy and reduce dependence on imported oil, the Cabinet of Ministers of Pakistan approved the National Energy Conservation plan.

1. After the cabinet meeting, Khawaja Asif, Pakistan’s Defence Minister said that markets will be shut down at 8.30 p.m. while marriage halls are to be closed by 10 p.m. He added that the production of conventional light bulbs will be stopped from 1st February and the production of high power-consuming fans will be stopped in July.

2. Similarly, the Government will make rules for geyser usage and it will be mandatory to use low-gas-powered geysers. Electricity consumption in Government offices and buildings will be reduced. A new ‘work from home’ policy for employees to work from home will also be implemented in the next 10 days.
