None of China’s business : Elizabeth Jones, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, Ambassador
New Delhi – Indian and US forces are conducting a military exercise near the border at Auli in Uttarakhand. The Chinese Government has objected to this. The US and India have responded to China about this. The US has said, ‘This is an internal matter between India and the US & none of its (China’s) business.’ Earlier in the day, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that, “India exercises with whomsoever it chooses to and it does not give a Veto to third countries on this issue.”

1. Zhao Lijian, China’s foreign minister said, “The joint military exercise between India and the US close to the LAC at the China-India border violates the spirit of the agreement between China and India in 1993 and 1996.” (Does repeated infiltrations into Indian soil fit into that agreement ? – Editor). This exercise will affect the relationship between India and China.

2. Responding to this, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that, “since the Chinese side has mentioned these agreements, let me emphasise that the Chinese side needs to reflect and think about its own breach of these agreements of 1993 and 1996.”
