Delhi’s Jama Masjid’s ban on the entry of a single or unaccompanied girl withdrawn by Imam Bukhari after protests
New Delhi – The historic Jama Masjid had banned a single girl or group of girls from entering its premises without a man. A notice about this decree was written at the mosque’s entrance. The administration of the mosque was heavily criticised for the ban. The Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Swati Maliwal issued a notice to the mosque administration regarding this decree. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad also opposed it. Delhi’s Deputy Governor requested Imam Bukhari after which this order was withdrawn.

Such acts should not be done in any religious place, be it a mosque, a Temple or a Gurudwara. Its sanctity and its limits must be maintained. Hence women can come with their families or with their men there is no ban on such women.
