Suella Braverman, known for her anti-trade growth deal with India, brought back as UK Home Secretary !
London (UK) – The newly elected Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of Britain declared his team of
ministers today. PM Sunak has brought back Suella Braverman, who held the same post in Liz Truss’s
cabinet earlier, appointing her the home secretary. Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman, both have
roots in India. Just few days ago, Braverman had opposed an open trade deal with India. Braverman
stated, “There will be an increase in the number of immigrants by having a free trade agreement
(FTA) with India.
Just six days ago Suella Braverman resigned as Home Secretary after beaching the ministerial code in a security breach. Today she’s back in the Home Office.

India. It was also stated that India’s Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UK to finalise the Agreement
during Diwali was cancelled due to Braverman’s statement.
Who is Suella Braverman ?
Suella Braverman, aged 42 years, was Attorney-General in the cabinet of Boris Johnson’s
Government. Her parents migrated to the UK from Kenya and Mauritius. Suella was born in London
on the 3 rd of April 1980. She grew up in Wembley and is a British citizen.

What is the free trade agreement ?
The two-way trade between India and Britain is Rs. 4,000 billion. There will be a large saving in taxes
under the free trade agreement. Britain started such a partnership with India in 2004. Britain
supported India in issues like terrorism, nuclear trade and civic space programmes. There are about
15 lakh people in the UK of Indian origin.

Their contribution to income is 6%. Around a lakh Indian students are presently studying in Britain. The trade between UK and India has grown three times in the last two decades. India’s import from the UK was worth Rs. 510.54 billion, while the export was Rs. 790 billion. The turnover including the services sector is Rs. 3,810 billion. Sunak has retained Jeremy Hunt as his finance secretary, who held a similar post even in the Truss Government.
