New Delhi – ‘La Vanguardia’, a newspaper ranked fourth on the list of newspapers printed in Spain, has published a caricature of the Indian economy’s growth. A protest against this newspaper is happening for showing the growing Indian economy in the form of a snake and a charmer playing with a pipe in front of the snake.

1. An article with the title ‘The Hour of the Indian Economy’ was published on the 9th of October 2022, but there is no protest against the article. The cartoon published with the article is, however, opposed by Indians in large numbers.
2. BJP-MP P C Mohan from Bengaluru expressed his displeasure over the picture published in the newspaper through his tweet. Mohan said that ‘India’s strong economy gets global recognition, but portraying our image as snake charmers, even after decades of Independence, is sheer stupidity. Decolonising the foreign mindset is a complex endeavour’.

3. Nitin Kamat, the Chief Executive Officer of ‘Zerodha’ has also expressed his annoyance over the picture. While it is good that the world is taking notice of India’s economy; showing a snake charmer as the representative of India in this article is insulting.
India will become the third-biggest economy in the world !
Indian economy reached the fifth position in the world by superseding Britain. As per the present growth rate, India will become the third-biggest economy in the world by overtaking Germany in 2027 and Japan in 2029. State Bank of India’s research report shows that India’s growth rate was 13.5 in the first quarter of this year. At this rate, India is likely to be the fastest-growing economy in this financial year.
