Ahmedabad (Gujarat) – SIT submitted a 100 page charge sheet against Teesta Setalvad, former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, and former Director General of Police RB Sreekumar in the case of Gujarat riots in 2002. Three of them had plotted a conspiracy to ensure the death penalty to Narendra Modi. Though Sreekumar and Bhatt were part of the Government, they helped Teesta by producing fake documents and adding them to the official documents.

The aim, according to the charge sheet, was to end the political career of then-CM Modi and damage his reputation. They hired several lawyers to prepare fake documents and affidavits. The riot victims were manipulated, and they were forced to sign the fabricated statements. Furthermore, the statements were written in English, which was an alien language for several victims, and they could not understand what they were signing, the SIT said. If the witnesses refused to support Setalvad, they were threatened.
