Prime Minister Modi’s meeting with Putin and Erdogan in Uzbekistan !
India’s attendance at the meeting of ‘The Shanghai Cooperation Organization’ !
Samarkand (Uzbekistan) – A one-day meeting of ‘The Shanghai Cooperation Organization’ i.e. ‘SCO’ was held here on 16th September. The President of Uzbekistan welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi who arrived on the night of 15th September to attend the meeting. To strengthen ties with Russia, curb China’s hegemony and to answer Pakistan; India has registered its participation in this meeting by keeping the above agenda in mind and also to increase cooperation with Central Asian countries.
1. Bilateral meetings took place between India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkey’s President Erdogan, Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

2. During Prime Minister Modi’s meeting with Putin, the two leaders discussed the Russia-Ukraine war. According to a statement issued by Russia, the issues of strategic stability and the current situation in the Asia-Pacific region were discussed. Along with this, Prime Minister Modi addressed the issue of supplying cheaper crude oil without any hindrance to Putin.
3. On 5th September the Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov said that the supply of crude oil to India will continue. This year it will reach higher scale. Because India needs cheap oil, while Russia needs new markets.
4. Whether Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet is still being kept under wraps, but a meeting was definitely held. Also, this will be the first meeting between Modi and Xi Jinping after the border dispute between India and China intensified.

While addressing a meeting Prime Minister Modi said that this year India’s economy is expected to grow at a rate of 7.5 percent. He also expressed happiness at India becoming one of the largest economies in the world. He further said – ‘We are supporting investment in every sector. Today there are more than 70 thousand ‘start-ups’ (new industries) in India. It has more than 100 unique features. Countries in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization can also take benefit from our experience. Hence we would like to make this opportunity available to everyone.
What is the ‘Shanghai Cooperation Organization ?’The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a political, economic and security organization. Established in the year 2001, this organization has 8 permanent countries including India, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan. India and Pakistan joined this organization in 2017. Apart from this, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey are dialogue partners, while Afghanistan, Iran, Belarus and Mongolia serve as its observers. |
