New Delhi – An old video of Retired Supreme Court Justice Indu Malhotra is circulating on social media, in which she says, “Communist Governments have taken control of Hindu temples”. Justice Indu Malhotra and present Chief Justice Uday Lalit had given an order related to Shri Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Kerala. Justice Malhotra had made this statement against that background. From this video, the Communists have criticised her of being ‘deeply prejudiced against Communists’. But many have appreciated the courage of Justice Indu Malhotra.

Communist Governments want to control temples only for their revenue

Justice Indu Malhotra said in this video that these Communist Governments deserve this. “These people are just looking to collect revenue. They want to control temples only because of revenue. They have gained control everywhere; that too only of Hindu temples. This is why, Justice Lalit and I said, no, we will not allow it”, she said.

The historical decision related to the Padmanabhaswamy temple

Her comments are an apparent allusion to the Supreme Court’s verdict in July 2020 which upheld the rights of the Travancore royal family to manage and maintain the historic Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple. That Bench consisted of Justice Malhotra and Justice UU Lalit, who became the Chief Justice of India on 27th August 2022. The Bench overturned a Kerala High Court order which held that with the death of the ‘ruler’ of Travancore (Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma) in 1991, who was trusted to manage the Temple, the State should be considered the ‘ruler’ of Travancore. The Bench held that Varma’s death would not in any way affect the Shebaitship of the Temple held by the royal family.

Who is Indu Malhotra ?

Indu Malhotra is the first female advocate to be appointed as a Supreme Court judge. She was the sole judge in the Sabarimala temple in Kerala judgment, in which she upheld the preservation of religious traditions rather than allowing women between the ages of 10 and 50 to enter the temple.

Editorial Viewpoint

Not only Communists, but Governments of all other political parties are also not far behind in Nationalizing Hindu temples. There is no option but to establish the ‘Hindu Rashtra’ to change this situation.
