Uday Lalit will be the 49th Chief Justice of the country

New Delhi – Justice Uday Lalit will be the 49th Chief Justice of the country. The present Chief Justice N.V. Ramana recommended the name of Justice Uday Lalit as the 49th Chief Justice of the country on 4th August. N.V. Ramana is retiring from the post of Chief Justice on 26th August. Uday Lalit will be sworn in as the Chief Justice after him. Justice Lalit will hold the post of Chief Justice till 8th November 2022.

Brief Introduction of Justice Uday Lalit

Justice Uday Lalit is a native of Sindhudurg District in Konkan and his native village is Kotharwadi in Devgad taluka. The special thing is that in the Lalit family, the profession of lawyer is practiced from generation to generation. Later Uday Lalit also chose the same profession. In 1983, after studying law in Mumbai, he started his legal practice in the Bombay High Court. Then in January 1986, he migrated to Delhi. There he practised in the Supreme Court for many years. On 13th August 2014, Lalit was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court.
