Petition of Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind in Gujarat High Court for not teaching Bhagawadgita in schools
Court seeks clarification from State Government
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) – The Gujarat High Court has sought an explanation from the State Government on its decision to teach the Bhagawadgita in all schools in the State. The BJP Government in Gujarat had announced in March to teach ‘Shrimadbhagawadgita Sar’ to all the students from classes VI to XII in the State under the National Education Policy. Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind filed a petition in the High Court challenging the decision. The Court has sought an explanation from the Government, but the decision has not been postponed.

The Court has asked the Government to file its statement by 18th August. Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind stated in the petition that the values and principles of Indian culture and the system of knowledge could be incorporated into the school curriculum, but how appropriate is it to impose the teachings of the Holy scriptures of a religion ?
