Muslims protest against the Court order to seal an illegal mosque in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu
Tirupur (Tamil Nadu) – Muslims staged a road jam agitation over the administration’s efforts to lock down an illegal mosque. They blocked the road by offering namaz on the road, which caused a traffic jam. The incident happened when the revenue department tried to close an illegal mosque in Mahalakshmi Nagar of Tirupur. The mosque had been illegally functioning for the last ten years. In 2016, the Madras High Court had ordered the revenue department to close the mosque, but they failed to do so. After that, the Court had given a deadline of 30th June 2022 to seal the mosque. As revenue officials went to close the mosque, more than 300 Muslims staged a roadblock outside the Tirupur municipal office. They also filed a petition in Court. The Court ordered to clear the way by 4th July.
