Tipu Sultan demolished the Anjaneya Temple and built the Jama Masjid in its place in Srirangapatna

New Delhi – The Jama Masjid in Srirangapatna in Mandya District of Karnataka was an Anjaneya Temple. Tipu Sultan demolished the temple and used its debris to build a mosque at that site. This is given in the report of the Mysore Archaeological Department in 1935. This fact has come to light now.

When the temple remains could be seen during the renovation of the Mosque, Hindus complained and got the mosque repair work stopped. The Hindus have asked the authorities for a survey to be done of the Mosque.
