Chennai – Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong, who was on a two-day visit to the city, visited the headquarters of the left-wing English daily The Hindu. During the visit, he met Suresh Nambath, the editor of the newspaper and other members of the editorial board. Weidong tweeted a video of the visit. “Visited the headquarters of The Hindu. Face-to-face communication leads to mutual understanding and trust. Welcome you all to explore and know more about a real, objective, and 3-dimensional China”, Ambassador Sun Weidong said in the video of his visit to the media outlet. Weidong also praised the work of The Hindu.

The Hindu newspaper is often said to be furthering the Chinese propaganda. The newspaper has always supported China’s various policies. On the occasion of the 100^th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese Communist Party in July 2021, The Hindu had published a full-page advertisement in the Chinese language about the party. Also, in October 2020, The Hindu published a Chinese advertisement on the occasion of China’s National Day. In an attempt to propagate communism, the newspaper had published a Chinese advertisement on the day of the sacrifice made by the Indian soldiers. Following the incident, the Income Tax Department launched an investigation into the financial transactions between the media outlet and China.

Editorial Viewpoint

As India is a democracy, the Constitution gives everyone the freedom to propagate their ideologies but reporting in the interest of the hostile nation is definitely disgraceful ! Why shouldn’t the Government take action against such media houses ? If action is taken and anyone regards it as an attack on the fourth pillar of democracy, then action must be taken against such people too !
