Survey of Gyanvapi Masjid completed

Highlights

  • Shivling is 12 feet by 8 inches in diameter
  • Court orders to seal Gyanvapi complex immediately
  • Police protection for the premises

Varasani (UP) – The videography survey of Gyanvapi Masjid concluded peacefully on 16th May. The survey lasted for three days and the report will be submitted to the Court Commissioner on 17th May. If it will take time to prepare the report, we will submit it in the next 2-3 days, explained Court Commissioner Ajay Pratap Singh. During the survey on the third day, the Hindu petitioners claimed that a Shivling 12 feet by 8 inches in diameter were found in a small Kund in the Gyanvapi Masjid complex. The Mosque committee lawyer denied it and said there was no Shivling. This reservoir is called the wajookhana. Here Muslims wash their hands and feet before offering namaz. Now the Court order will not permit Muslims to do so. Hindu petitioners Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain informed the Court about the Shivling and demanded protection of the Shivling and ban the offering of namaz there. The Court granted the request and ordered the Kund to be sealed and protected. Shivling surfaced after the water in the Kund was pumped out before the survey. The Shivling is facing the Nandi of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

Anyone could say, Gyanvapi was a Hindu temple in the past – Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain

Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain

Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain said we have not violated any Court order by revealing the information that Shivling was found in the Wajookhana of the Masjid. People already knew what I was saying. Looking at the west wall of the so-called Gyanvapi Mosque, anyone would say it was a Hindu temple. On the west wall of the Mosque, there is a place to keep Idols of Deities and bells. Earlier, a survey of the Gyanvapi Mosque was conducted in the year 1996. If the differences between the two surveys are considered, then the ‘Places of Worship’ law that denies the right to go to Court may apply to the opposition. This law violates the right to go to any Court granted by the Supreme Court. Seven petitions have been filed in the Gyanvapi case. Hearing of all the petitions will be together now.

Will demand survey of debris in the Mosque area – Petitioners

Petitioner Sohan Lal said, even though the survey conducted by the Court order has been completed, we will now demand a survey of the debris in the area. The debris is on the west side of the Mosque. There are likely to be Idols, inscriptions and other antiques of our Deities.

What is the Gyanvapi case?

There is a Shri Shringar Gauri Devi Temple in the Gyanvapi Mosque complex. Hindus were allowed to worship here only once a year. Five women filed a petition in the Court and sought permission to perform pooja daily. During the hearing, a demand to survey the area was made. The Court then ordered a videography survey. Now, after the survey, a report will be submitted to the Court then it will be clear whether Hindus will be allowed to worship Shri Shringar Gauri every day or not. Based on the present survey, the Hindu petitioners may demand that the Gyanvapi Mosque was the former Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple of the Hindus.

The Advocate of Hindu petitioners denied entry to Gyanvapi to prevent disclosing information

On 16th May, when the Court Commissioner, assistant Commissioner and advocates of both the parties reached the Gyanvapi complex for the survey, the advocate of Hindu petitioners Ram Prasad Singh was stopped by the Police from entering the Gyanvapi area. He was prevented from entering the complex for disclosing confidential information about the survey.
