Patiala (Punjab) – An accusation has been made by Hindus that the sacred Sikh site in Gujranwala ‘Guru Ka Saray’ is being converted into an area for a mosque, but the Muslims claim that there used to be a mosque in that place 75 years ago and they are merely trying to renovate it.

1. The Hindus claim that the Sikhs used to look after this place and many Sikh families used to stay in that area. Further, they also stated that the Muslims threatened the Sikhs and forced them out of that area, and seized the land for themselves. After some time, they built a mosque over that area. There were Sikh religious symbols earlier now they have all been removed and converted into Muslims’ religious symbols.
2. This issue has now reached the Court. In 2017, the Muslims were unable to prove that this area was theirs. After which the Court gave a verdict in favour of Sikhs. But even after this, namaz is offered daily on that site. (Why isn’t the Government enforcing the law even after receiving the order from the Court ? – Editor)
3. Athar Hussain, the President of the Gujranwala Mosque said that they have submitted the necessary documents to the Officers of the Sub-department.
4. Due to this incident, the Officers of the Sub-department have called both the parties to present their documents on 9th May for a discussion.
