Priyanka Vadra forced me to buy MF Husain’s painting of Rajiv Gandhi for ₹2 crore : Rana Kapoor

Mumbai – Yes Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor has told the Enforcement Directorate in a statement that he was forced by Congress leader Priyanka Vadra to buy a portrait of the late Rajiv Gandhi painted by the anti-Hindu painter MF Husain. Kapoor also told the ED that he was promised the highest civilian award in the country and that the deal was struck by senior Congress leader and then Petroleum Minister Murli Deora. The statement was recorded on the 9th and 10th March 2020. The ED has recently filed a charge sheet against Yes Bank officials, which contains this information.

1. According to the charge sheet, Rana Kapoor said, ‘A few weeks after I bought this painting, the late Ahmed Patel, a senior Congress leader and Sonia Gandhi’s political advisor, had even praised me for my good work. They also told me that I would be considered for the highest civil honour. The money was exchanged, and the painting was handed over to me in Priyanka Vadra’s office in New Delhi. Priyanka Vadra was also present on the occasion’.

2. The ED had filed a case of financial fraud against Rana Kapoor, his wife, daughters, Kapil Wadhwan, promoter of Diwan Housing Finance Corporation Limited, and Yes Bank officials in December 2019 based on a fraud case registered by Lucknow Police.
