Karauli (Rajasthan) – Violence erupted after an attack on a two-wheeler rally organised by Hindus, on the Eve of New Year while passing through a Muslim-majority area. Many Hindu shops suffered arson attacks. These Hindu shopkeepers have now put up ‘For Sale’ boards outside their shops. The Hindus are under terror after the attacks by religious fanatics. They say they have no choice but to sell their property and flee.
- We suffered heavy loss in this arson, said one shopkeeper. We already were in debt, which is also a reason for selling the property. We cannot live in terror. These people (religious fanatics) could be worse with us in the future.
- Chandrasekhar Garg said that his shop is 60 years old, yet we have decided to sell it. We always tried to maintain brotherhood, but we did not expect that they (religious fanatics) would betray us.
