Criminal Procedure (Identification) bill 2022 passed in Lok Sabha

Police to get rights to collect biometrics of the criminals !

New Delhi – The Central Government passed the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, in 2022 in the Lok Sabha. The Bill allows the Police to collect finger impressions, palm prints impressions, footprint impressions, photographs, iris and retina scans, physical and biological samples. The Government clarified that such persons, who are not convicted or arrested for a crime against women or children or those who are in custody for an offence punishable with imprisonment for a period less than seven years, can deny permission to give their biological samples. The Central and State investigation departments will have the right to make decisions regarding the security of this biometrics database. The Centre has given strict orders that till the Court orders, the biometric samples of the acquitted individuals will not be collected.
