(A Maulavi is a religious leader in Islam)
Rajouri (J&K) – Maulavi Farooq of Jama Masjid in Rajouri has apologised for issuing a threat to Hindus while commenting on the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ in the mosque during Friday prayers. After the video of Maulavi’s speech went viral, he was heavily criticised. He then apologised. ‘I did not speak against any religion, but against the Government’, he said in clarification. Kashmiri Hindus are our brothers; hence, I do not want to speak anything against them. The Maulavi had also demanded a ban on the film in his speech.
We ruled this country for 800 years, while they (Hindus) ruled for 70 years; but they cannot destroy us !
What did Maulavi Farooq say ?
Maulana Farooq had said, ‘Innumerable Muslims have been killed in the last 32 years, but nobody talks about it. People have forgotten the plight of Kashmiri Muslims. Nobody sees their blood. We are peace-loving people. We have ruled this country for 800 years, while these people (Hindus) have ruled for 70 years; but they cannot destroy our identity. You will perish, but we will not’. People sitting during this speech are seen chanting ‘Nara-e-Takbir’ (Allah is the Greatest) and ‘Allahu Akbar’ (Allah is Great).
Vivek Agnihotri, director of The Kashmir Files, tweeted on the Maulavi’s video, saying that this is how Hindus underwent genocide in Kashmir.
