Bengaluru (Karnataka) – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Mariam (Deepthi Marlah), a female jihadi militant from Karnataka, for her alleged links to the Islamic State militant group. She lives in Mastikatte village near Mangaluru. She is the daughter-in-law of the late BM Idinabba, a former Congress MLA from Karnataka, and the wife of BM Basha, the son of Idinabba.

After a raid on Basha’s home, some objectionable documents were found and seized. In August 2021, Basha’s nephew Ammar was arrested for having links with ISIS in a raid on the same house. Mariam was also interrogated at the time. Now that solid evidence has been found against her, she has been arrested. Mariam was a Hindu before marriage. She was from a rich family. While studying in Dubai, Mariam alias Deepthi Marlah came in contact with Ajmal, a female Islamic State terrorist. Ajmal is the granddaughter of former MLA BM Idinabba.
