FCRA license of six thousand NGOs cancelled
The list includes Indian Medical Association, Jamia Millia Islamia University, Nehru Memorial and Library
New Delhi – More than six thousand FCRA licenses were cancelled which includes Indian Medical Association, Jamia Millia Islamia University, IIT Delhi, Nehru Memorial, and Library. Mother Teresa Foundation and 179 other institutes are denied renewal of their licenses. On the other hand, the remaining applications are still under review. The Government officials added further that the organisations whose licenses are forfeited have either gone under cancellation or denied renewal. All NGOs and their sister organisations are required to be compliant with FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) to receive foreign donations and funding. The record is maintained by the Central Government.

According to FCRA, there were a total of 22,762 registered organisations until 31st Dec. 2021. However, 5,933 organisations lost their licenses on 1st Jan 2022, hence, the number came down to 16,829. The officials also informed that 5,789 institutions lost their licenses because they did not apply for renewals.
According to the officials, two months before the license expiration date the reminders were sent. The licenses could not be continued without any renewal application.

The list of dismissed applications or expiration of licenses includes Indira Gandhi National Arts Academy, Indian Public Administration Institute, Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Foundation, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi College of Engineering, Oxfam India.
Registration has been also cancelled for the Medical Council of India (MCI), Emmanuel Hospital Association, Vishwa Dharmayatan, Maharishi Ayurved Foundation, National Federation of Fishermen Cooperative Ltd., India Islamic Cultural Center, Godrej Memorial Trust, and Delhi Public School Society.
