Print the picture of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on Indian currency notes : Petition in Calcutta High Court
Kolkata – A petition seeking to print Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s picture on Indian currency notes has been filed in the Calcutta High Court. During the hearing, the Court issued a notice to the Centre to reply in this matter. The next hearing will be held on 21st February 2022.
The petition was filed by 94-year-old freedom fighter Haren Bagchi Biswas. He asked in the petition, why the picture of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose cannot be printed on currency notes like Mahatma Gandhi ? The petitioner has further alleged that the Indian Government has not yet given due recognition to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s contribution towards the freedom struggle.

Madras High Court has earlier dismissed a petition seeking such demand !
In September 2021, the Madras High Court, while hearing the case, rejected a petition seeking to print Netaji Bose’s photo on the currency. The Court had ruled that the decision of the Central Government and the Reserve Bank not to print pictures of anyone other than Gandhi on the notes was correct. The Court does not regard Netaji Bose or any other freedom fighter as less. All known and unknown people have worked towards Independence. There will be no end if everyone starts making such demands.
