Shiv Sena and Congress criticise, questions raised through social media also

Editorial comment

Indians do not expect an important organisation like ISRO to get into an agreement with a company from a country that is India’s greatest enemy at this juncture. The Government of India owes an explanation to the Indians.

New Delhi – ISRO has tied up with ‘Oppo India’, the Indian wing of this Chinese company. It has surprised people at all levels across the country. Questions are being raised about this agreement on social media. It is also being termed as a big mistake. ISRO has not revealed any information about this agreement so far, but Oppo has given the information. Oppo said that it has tied up with ISRO as a part of the ‘Atma-nirbhar Bharat’ plan. Under this, the modification and development of Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) message Service’ will be done to improve its performance. NavIC is a methodology developed by ISRO that provides messaging services. It provides regional navigation services that extend up to 1,500 kilometres beyond the Indian mainland.

Shiv Sena’s MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has tweeted that ‘It amazes me no end that on one hand, we as a nation are trying to fend them off the border, reduce their exposure to Indian markets and yet important arms of India and national security continue to be oblivious to the threat.’

Congress spokesperson Dr Shama Mohamed also tweeted that on one hand, China is illegally annexing Indian Territory and on the other, ISRO tying up with Chinese mobile manufacturer Oppo is shocking.
