New Delhi – India is poor and a very unequal country, says World Inequality Report 2022. The report is based on information from the year 2021. According to the report, global income has also declined in the year 2020. This report was authored by Lucas Chancel, co-director of the World Inequality Lab. Several experts, including the French economist Thomas Piketty, have contributed to the report.

The report states,

India is a country where 10% of the population contributes 57% to the national income, while the bottom (50%) shares only 13%.

The average national income of the Indian adult population is Rs 204,200. While the bottom 50% earns Rs 53,610, the top 10% earns more than 20 times (Rs 1,166,520).

The 10% population holds 57% of the national income. 1% population holds 22%. At the same time, the bottom 50% population holds only 13%.

The average household wealth in India is Rs 9,83,010. India is an unequal country filled with poor and rich people.

Gender inequality is rampant in India. The share of income of women workers is 18% which is very less compared to other countries in Asia.
