More than 100 people arrested

  • This incident shows that law and order do not exist in Pakistan.
  • Will the so-called activists of freedom of expression in India stand by the side of the Sri Lankan citizen ? Are they even going to condemn the gruesome act of religious fanatics ?
  • Even though the religious sentiments of Hindus are constantly being hurt, Hindus try to oppose it legitimately, unfortunately, that too is neglected !

Sialkot (Pakistan) – Priyantha Kumara, a Sri Lankan national, was mutilated and burnt by a mob on 3rd December over alleged blasphemy. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Arif Alvi have condemned the incident. Police have arrested 100 people in this case. Priyantha Kumara was working as an export manager in a private factory at Wazirabad Road, Sialkot. Sri Lanka’s foreign ministry has demanded an enquiry, but Amnesty International has called for an independent inquiry. In Pakistan, more than 70 people have been killed over blasphemy allegations by the mobs of religious fanatics since 1990.

According to eyewitnesses, rumours of Priyantha’s blasphemy had been circulating in his factory since morning. The rumour spread rapidly throughout the factory. The workers also staged a protest outside the factory. At that time a large number of people broke into the factory and beat Priyantha before breaking his limbs and burning him alive.

Priyantha was already beaten a lot when Police arrived on the scene. Due to the smaller number of Police personnel and the large crowd, there was much delay to help Priyantha. Police tried to save Priyantha, but they failed to do so due to the crowd.

‘This is a shameful day for Pakistan. I am personally keeping an eye on the investigation of this incident. Those responsible for the incident will be punished. The culprits are also being arrested’, said Prime Minister Imran Khan. (Pakistan is a disgrace to the whole world. It should now be declared a ‘terrorist’ and ‘fanatical’ country and boycotted by the world ! – Editor)

What is blasphemy ?

Blasphemy means a criticism of God. This includes purposely damaging the place of worship, interfering with religious activities, and insulting religious sentiments. Many countries in the world have blasphemy laws. According to these laws, there are also provisions of severe punishment. 26% of the world’s countries have such a law. About 70% of these are Islamic countries. In Pakistan, according to the law, anyone who speaks or acts against Islam or the Prophet Muhammad is punishable by death. If not hanged to death, the culprit is punishable by life imprisonment along with a fine. This law was enacted during British rule.
