Petition in the Court to stop the usage of Halal-certified jaggery in prasad of Sabarimala Temple
Kerala High Court orders Travancore Devaswom Board to submit the report
Kochi (Kerala) – In the preparation of ‘Aravana’ and ‘Unniyappam’ offerings at the Shri Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala, halal-certified jaggery is used. SJR Kumar has petitioned in Kerala High Court to immediately stop the usage of halal-certified jaggery in the Sabarimala temple. The High Court has sought a report on the issue from the Travancore Devaswom Board Secretary, Commissioner and the Special Commissioner of Sabarimala temple.

A petitioner requested the directions to the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) and Food Safety Commissioner that prasad made from impure halal-certified jaggery should be stopped immediately. It shall not be further used in prasad.
The TDB and the Food Safety Commissioner told the Court that the quality of the prasad gets tested in the laboratory before distribution.

The two-month-long annual Mandalam-Makaravilakku Yatra of the Sabrimala temple has started. During this, thousands of devotees will come here. The Prasad is distributed during the yatra.
