Not Pakistan, but China is India’s number one enemy : CDS Bipin Rawat

Note: CDS stands for Chief of Defence Staff (Head of all the three forces)

New Delhi – The primary focus of India at the Line of Actual Control is to deploy troops far and wide as China is our number one enemy, not Pakistan, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat said on 11th November. He was speaking at a news channel conference. ‘In the future, India may have to face enemies on both fronts (Pakistan and China) at the same time’, Rawat said.

  1. Referring to reports that China had set up a village near the Arunachal Pradesh border, Rawat said China was carrying out development work along its border. Chinese troops have demolished old buildings and built new ones. Nowadays people get photographs via satellite or Google. Such technology was not available before. After such a photograph becomes viral, there are talks about infiltration or gaining control over any territory.
  2. Rawat further said that like China, India is also carrying out large-scale development works in areas near the Line of Actual Control. Earlier we did not build roads around the border. In the past, there were fears that Chinese troops would come and damage the roads; however, now the situation has changed.
  3. Regarding the Galwan incident, Rawat said that after the clash in Galwan Valley, the Indian and the Chinese Army have had a standoff several times. Both countries are working to ensure that troops do not come so close to each other. We are trying our best to restore the conditions that existed before April 2020.
