Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) – Infiltration of Chinese ships into Malaysia’s exclusive economic zone has increased. As a protest against this, Malaysia has summoned China’s envoy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia explained that Chinese vessels were operating off the coasts of the Malaysian States in contravention of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Malaysia’s consistent position and actions are based on international law in defence of Malaysia’s sovereignty and sovereign rights.

South China Sea is exclusively important from the perspective of global maritime trade. Huge oil and natural gas reserves are said to lie beneath its seabed. China tries to control almost the entire South China Sea. Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Brunei constantly oppose expansionist China.
