Bengaluru (Karnataka) – The State Administration is demolishing Hindus’ temples, claiming them to be unauthorised. Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal have opposed the same. An old Mahadev Mandir in Najangudu taluka in Mysuru District was demolished against which VHP and Bajrang Dal had to stage agitations condemning the State Government’s action. These organisations have demanded reconstruction of that temple and action against the Tehsildar and additional District Collector responsible for the demolition. (Why such demand has to be made ? The Government should have taken action on its own. – Editor)

VHP’s local secretary, M. B. Puranik said that the mistake committed by the State needs to be rectified. The order for demolition was issued by the State Chief Secretary wherein it was stated that all unauthorised religious constructions in the State should be demolished. In the order issued by the Supreme Court, it has been stated that the temples built before 2009 should not be demolished. Owing to this dispute, State Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai intervened and ordered the Administration to keep the order of taking action against temples all over the State, on hold. (Instead of just issuing these orders, take action against the persons responsible for such demolition ! – Editor)

It is wrong to demolish temples – Yediyurappa, former State CM
It was wrong to demolish the temple at Mysuru. Temples should not be demolished in a hurry under any excuse. It is not right. People’s opinion should be taken before demolishing any temple, stated the former State Chief Minister Yediyurappa while talking to the press.
Administration demolished the temple in a hurry – BJP MP Pratap Singh
BJP MP Pratap Singh also blamed the District Administration for deciding to demolish the temple, in a hurry, as per the Supreme Court’s orders. The Administration has not followed the Supreme Court’s order in demolishing the temple. The officers misinterpreted the order regarding the demolition of temples, alleged Singh.
