New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award has been renamed Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. PM Modi made a Tweet saying that Major Dhyan Chand was among India’s foremost sportspersons who brought honour and pride to India. It is fitting that our nation’s highest sporting honour is being renamed after him. He added that he was getting many requests from citizens across India to name the Khel Ratna Award after Major Dhyan Chand. Respecting their sentiments the award has been renamed.
