Chennai – Police said that nine Iranians were arrested for illegal stay in Chennai and fake Aadhaar cards recovered from them, with the issue coming to light after the role of 3 in a robbery case involving a Somalia national emerged. The arrested included three women and all the nine were staying in resorts at the sea-side town of Kovalam.
The incident came to light when the Police were probing the loot complaint of a Somalian. Calling themselves the ‘Central Police’ the intruders robbed Rs. 2.84 lakhs from the Somalian. Police have also recovered a car used by the intruders.
“Aadhaar cards in their possession turned out to be fake”, a Police release stated, adding, that the Iranians did not have any valid travel and related documents as well.
The Police suspect that the Iranian group has been involved in several similar offences.
