Coronavirus found in the Sabarmati river in Gujarat

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) – Traces of coronavirus were found in the water samples of the Sabarmati River, Kankariya and Chandola lakes. Water samples from rivers at Guwahati in Assam were also tested for the virus. Samples from the River Bharu contained the coronavirus. The samples of water from these rivers contained heavy traces of the coronavirus.

Eight institutes researched the presence of the coronavirus in the rivers and lakes. Head of Geology Department in the Gandhinagar IIT in Gujarat Manish Kumar said, “So far, we found the live coronavirus only in the sewage water. On testing the water of several rivers, we found traces of the coronavirus in it. A large number of sewage water treatment plants are on the River Sabarmati. In Guwahati, there is no plant to treat sewage water. Samples from both the rivers contained the coronavirus. This concludes that the coronavirus can live in the fresh and clean water of the river”.
