Sexual harassment of minor girls for the past 4 years at ‘Mother Teresa Welfare Trust’ shelter home in Jharkhand

Singhbum (Jharkhand) – As per the reports, minor girls were being sexually abused in a shelter home run by ‘Mother Teresa Welfare Trust’. FIR has been registered against Director Harpal Singh Thapar, his wife Pushpa Rani Tirkey, warden Geeta Singh, her son Aditya Singh, and another staff member Tony Singh. Pushpa Tirkey is a chairperson of East Singhbhum District Child Welfare Committee (CWC). All the above-mentioned individuals are on the run. Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. M Tamil Vanan informed that two minor girls, who were released from the shelter home, aged 16 and 17, were being sexually harassed for past 4 years.

- The girls revealed to the Police that despite complaining repeatedly to Tirkey for the past four years, no action was taken by her against the perpetrators.
- A three-and-a-half-year-old girl died in this shelter home due to a brain tumour. Thapar and Tirkey did not inform the Police or the District Administration about the death, which they were legally bound to. It is the Jharkhand Government-approved NGO.
