Free meals and gifts offered to the public in Tamil Nadu as an incentive to promote Covid vaccination
Offerings such gifts to lure the public for vaccination is an example of public ignorance regarding their health.
Chennai – At Kovalam, a fisherman village near Chennai, STS foundation started a novel scheme to encourage the public for Covid vaccination. This organisation offered free meals and gifts in a lucky draw to persons agreeing to vaccination. Local people are happy about this scheme and are participating in the vaccination drive.

The announcement of this scheme encouraged 345 persons in the village for vaccination in the last three days. Before this, in the last two months, only 58 persons received the vaccine. The 18+ population in this village is 6,400. There will be a lucky draw every week. Gifts in this draw include mixer-grinder and gold coins. The STS plans to have a bumper draw with prizes – a scooter, fridge, washing machine, etc. The purpose of this scheme is to eradicate coronavirus from the Kovalam village.
