Kavaratti (Lakshadweep) – The Chief Administrator of Lakshadweep, Praful Patel imposed a ban on cow slaughter. He introduced a rule allowing candidature of only candidates with less than 3 children for Panchayat elections. He removed ban on alcohol sale for tourists on the island to promote tourism. Local residents fiercely opposed these actions. 98% of Muslim population does not want implementation of these rules. Congress party supports the local Muslims. Congress party filed a petition in Kerala High Court to squash these orders. The Court dismissed the case. Eleven years ago, Congress party attempted erection of statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Muslim population fiercely resisted the attempt and it was abandoned. Muslim religion does not permit erection of a statue. However, the administration did not admit it. (Why is Congress party silent on this ? Did they choose Muslims over Gandhi ? – Editor.)
According to the media reports in Kerala, the Muslims are opposing erection of the statue because the statue of Mahatma Gandhi will be regularly decorated with flowers and garlands to honour Gandhi. It is a violation of Shariat law.
