During the plague epidemic about 100 years ago, a temple was built and an idol of Mariamman Devi was installed. It is believed that people started offering prayers in this temple and gradually the plague epidemic reduced. Now at this very place, a Mutt named Kamatchipuri Adheenam has built a temple near Irugur on the outskirts of Coimbatore. An idol measuring 1.5 feet high has been consecrated and named as Goddess Corona Devi. A Maha-yajna and daily prayers will be performed for 48 days seeking divine intervention to save the people from the deadly disease.
