Journalist Tarun Tejpal gets acquitted in a 2013 sexual assault case
Goa Sessions Court’s verdict on a rape and assault case
Panaji (Goa) – The founder and former Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka (a news magazine), Tarun Tejpal was acquitted by the Mapusa Sessions Court on 16th May in a 2013 sexual assault case involving a former colleague.

Tarun Tejpal was accused of sexually assaulting a colleague during an event organised at a 5-star hotel in Bambolim in 2013. He was subsequently arrested on 30th November 2013 but was later granted bail in 2014. The Goa Crime Branch had filed a 3,000-page chargesheet against Tejpal on 17th February 2014. The charges against him were finalised on 28th September and the Court hearing had started from 15th March 2018. The Police had filed a 161-page supplementary chargesheet against him in 2021. In this case, Special Public Prosecutor Francisco Tavora and advocate Cyndiana D’Silva represented the Goa Police.
