A 19-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh and a 22-year-old boy from Punjab had filed the petition. Both have been in a ‘live-in relationship’ for the last 4 years, but the girl’s family is against inter-caste marriage. Both have claimed that they have received several threats from the girl’s family and hence, demanded protection from her family.
Rejecting the petition, the Court said, “through the petition of their safety, the petitioners are trying to get recognition for their live-in relationship, hence in this case the protection cannot be granted”.
