Stringent action should be taken on those responsible for this
Yadagiri (Karnataka) – A deceased villager was being cremated in Rastapur village here. However, health department officials reached the place and told the relatives of the deceased that he has tested Covid positive. The deceased had earlier tested Covid negative while undergoing treatment. On realising that the deceased person was a victim of the coronavirus, the relatives who had gathered for his funeral started leaving. The panic turned into confusion when the health department officials returned to claim that the deceased had tested Covid negative.
A 75-year-old man of Rastapur village was admitted to a private hospital in the village on April 18. The same day he was tested for corona and was found Covid negative. Doctors started treating him normally. The person passed away during the treatment. Due to the corona report of the deceased person being negative, his mortal remains were handed over to his family for the last rites. At the funeral, on 20 April, the Health Department officials went and informed the relatives gathered there that the deceased person had tested Covid positive, and that he was a victim of the coronavirus. Hearing this, the people present for the funeral got scared and fled. Later, only four family members performed the last rites as per Covid protocols. After the funeral, the health department officials came again and said that the Covid report of the dead person was negative. The family members of the deceased are confused, as they are unable to understand which report is correct.
Surprisingly, while the person’s throat and nasal swabs had been collected only once and sent for testing, three reports had been generated. With the first report claiming that the person was Covid negative, the second claiming that he tested positive and the third negative again. These conflicting reports led to the confusions. 3 reports have been received first negative, second positive and third negative again.
