‘Tandav’ controversy: Allahabad HC rejects Amazon Prime content head’s anticipatory bail plea
The Allahabad High Court has now rejected the anticipatory bail application filed by a top Amazon Prime Video executive in a case against Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia’s web series ‘Tandav’, saying that the makers have hurt Hindu religious sentiments . A single-judge bench of justice Siddharth rejected Aparna Purohit’s bail plea in connection with the ongoing investigation against the web series for outraging religious feelings and showing Hindu gods in a bad light. The court stated that Purohit was granted protection from arrest on February 11, but failed to cooperate with the investigation.

Prayagraj (U.P.) – ‘Insult of Hindu Deities under the name of freedom of expression cannot be tolerated. The objective of those who formed the Constitution was that all religions should be respected. The manner in which religious sentiments are ignored completely and a single religion is targeted in depicting scenes related to Hindu Deities is extremely inappropriate.’ The above statements were made by the Allahabad High Court while reprimanding Aparna Purohit, Content Head of ‘Amzaon Prime’. The Court has rejected her anticipatory bail application. Hence, there is a possibility that she may be arrested. ‘Tandav’ web series is available on the Amazon Prime OTT platform. A case has been registered with the Police as Hindu deities were insulted in this web series.
