Muslim man converts to Hindu Dharma, claims it is ‘homecoming’
Police provide security due to threats
Aligarh (UP) – Qasim from Aligarh married a Hindu girl in 2012. He has now adopted the Hindu religion after which he received death threats. He sought help from the police. The state has passed a new anti-conversion law, under which a person who wants to change his religion and the one who converts must give a declaration in advance to the District Magistrate about it. The police were criticised for providing security to Qasim for not following the rule as per the new law. Qasim explained that it was ‘Ghar vapasi’ (homecoming) for him and he has been receiving threats after he adopted Hindu dharma, for which he sought police protection.
- His wife Anita stated that both followed their respective religions and she did not convert post marriage, but Qasim was hesitant to do namaz in front of his kids so he always went out. She said that she is happy about Qasim`s embracing Hindu Dharma.
- Qasim went through a purification ritual at Arya Samaj and adopted Hindu Dharma. After this he started getting life threats and he asked for police protection.
- Niraj Bharadwaj who helped Qasim embrace Hindu Dharma said, this is not a conversion but it is a homecoming. He has not been converted but he went through a ritual of purification.
- Qasim said that he had a feeling that his ancestors were not descendants of Babur, but were practitioners of Hindu Dharma. I feel that I have returned to my fold. The entire family is with me. I have embraced Hindu Dharma of my own free will.
